Kweku Flick

Andy Osei Sarfo, who performs as Kweku Flick, was born on 16 May 2001. The rapper and singer has family roots in Mampong, a town in Ghana’s Ashanti region, and grew up as one of five children.

A Restless School Career

Flick started his schooling at Saint Georges in Kumasi, then attended Pentecost Preparatory School for junior high. He finished his secondary education in 2020 at St. Hubert Seminary. Getting there took several transfers. During a TV3 interview, he explained that he moved between multiple senior high schools within roughly three years, beginning at Kumasi Senior High School, because music kept drawing his attention away from school life. He added that his musical ambitions led to disciplinary trouble at St. Hubert’s.

The Rise of “Money”

His first release was the single “Awake.” It was his follow-up, “Money,” put out in 2020, that turned him into a recognisable name across Ghana and abroad.

Notable Collaborations

Over the years, Flick has teamed up with artists such as Sista Afia, Yaw Tog, Sarkodie, Amerado, Strongman, Black Sherif, Kofi Jamar and Kojo Cue. In 2020 he also guested on Shatta Wale’s “Ahodwo Las Vegas.” A year later, he and Yaw Tog joined Kweku Darlington on “Sika Aba Fie,” a track that topped Ghanaian radio plays in March 2021.

Before the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Flick and producer Smallgod released “Blackstars” in support of the national team, and it was well received by fans and players alike. He frequently performs in Twi, has drawn praise from Obrafour, and has been nominated at both the Ghana Music Awards and the 3Music Awards.

Looking Ahead

Now in his mid-twenties, Kweku Flick represents a newer generation of Ghanaian rappers. His path shows how a student who kept changing schools to follow his music ended up building a career in it.
