Amerado

Amerado, born Derrick Sarfo Kantanka on February 14, 1995, is a Ghanaian rapper, singer and songwriter from Ejisu in the Ashanti Region. Known professionally as Amerado Burner, he has built a reputation for sharp lyricism, storytelling and versatility, performing primarily in Twi while also incorporating English into his music.

Amerado’s music career began taking shape in 2015 when he participated in the Solid FM Freestyle Show. His performance attracted the attention of producer and A&R Azee Ntwene, who subsequently signed him to MicBurnerz Music. In 2016, he was also involved in a peace song connected to Ghana’s general elections. The following year, he released his debut single, I AM, establishing himself as one of the emerging rappers from Kumasi.

A significant moment in Amerado’s early career came in 2018 when he appeared on Biibi Ba, a Sarkodie-led collaboration featuring several Ghanaian rappers. The song received nominations at the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards and helped increase Amerado’s visibility within Ghana’s hip-hop community.

Amerado became particularly recognized for Yeete Nsem, a rap series built around current events and news. What began as a weekly rap news review on social media developed into one of his defining creative projects and has been described as Ghana’s first news-casting rap series. The format allowed him to combine commentary, wordplay and current affairs while strengthening his identity as a rapper with a distinctive storytelling approach.

His discography has continued to expand through EPs, singles and his 2022 album G.I.N.A. His projects include Rapmare (2017), Patience (2021), Young And Strong (2023), The Gold Coin (2024), and the Against All Odds and Defy All Odds projects released in 2025.

Amerado reached another major milestone at the 24th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards in 2023, where he won Best Rap Performance for Obiaa Boa. He had previously received nominations in the category, making the victory an important achievement in his progression as a Ghanaian rapper.

His career has also included notable collaborations and songs such as Kwaku Ananse, Kyerɛ Me, Nyame Dada, Grace and The Hardest. At the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards, The Hardest was nominated for Best Rap Performance, while Kwaku Ananse received a nomination in the Most Popular Song category.

Beyond music, Amerado has continued his education at the University of Ghana, where he has studied Political Science. In August 2026, he discussed his university experience and personal growth while reflecting on the challenges he encountered during his academic journey.

From his beginnings in Kumasi’s rap scene to national recognition through Yeete Nsem, award-winning records and multiple projects, Amerado has established himself as one of Ghana’s prominent contemporary rap voices. His combination of Twi lyricism, social commentary, storytelling and versatility continues to define his place in Ghanaian hip-hop and hiplife.
