E.L’s Hits 20M Plays On Spotify with ‘Superhero’. Currently Highest Streamed Ghanaian Hip-Hop Song

Ghana’s Prince Bright has new song with Puerto Rican artiste reggaeton star H Merced

V.O. Nation frontman, E.L breaks Spotify’s streaming record for Ghanaian musicians today, clocking over 20,000,000+ streams for a song from years back that bizarrely flew under the radar to now become by far the highest streamed Ghanaian Hip-Hop song to date.

Ask Ghanaian Hip-Hop heads of their favorites off the rapper’s stunning ‘’BAR 2’’ mixtape (2015) and ‘Superhero’ seems almost non-existent. That’s how well it managed to elude many who may have not even known where to find it. Of course, it’s easy to get picky when having to choose from 20 songs, but ‘Superhero’ was clearly one of the project’s underdogs. It just wasn’t attuned to Ghanaian music tastes at the time or so we thought?

‘’I’m really grateful to every fan out there who put in the time to get the figures this big, especially the international ones, because ‘Superhero’ was not a song most Ghanaians latched on to or even heard’’, E.L shared. ‘’This just goes to show that good material always gets recognized eventually, I want artists here to see this and be encouraged to focus on putting out good material, staying original and focus not only on the hype aspect, hype dies down but quality lives longer. Having said that, I want fans to be on the lookout for my next project which will be announced soon’’, he added.

Today, thanks to the streaming era, it’s safe to say ‘Superhero’ grew a cult following of its own in Ghana and beyond and despite no radio airplay, it gained steady momentum in the background of affairs to hand E.L this industry-leading milestone.

Ghanaian music producer iPappi, has indicated that Nigerian musician Runtown, is suffering the consequences of not paying him for services. In a post on twitter last night, the producer said:

Runtown refused to pay for my own beat he used after sending him the invoice. Now he can’t find the song on digital stores anymore. That’s what u get for messing with a producer who know what he is doing… lmao

Runtown Refused To Pay For My Beat, Now He Can't Find The Song In Digital Stores

Ghanaian producers in recent times have been lamenting about the poor treatment and lack of respect they are subjected to by music artistes and have recently been on a mission to legally protect their services.  It therefore came as no surprise when iPappi a couple of months back signed a publishing deal with Sony Music but as to whether this played a part in current happenings is yet to be known.

This move by iPappi will surely not go unnoticed by Ghanaian producer community and might set the tone for fair dealings with other producers in the future.

Despite a few people being displeased with this announcement, legendary Ghanaian music producer, Da’Hammer (of the Last Two), has applauded the move indicating he is proud of iPappi.

Kelly Anthony Features Sarkodie And Larruso On His Latest Single ‘Pagans’

As the world comes to grips with the altering effect of the Internet, life everywhere is changing. Influences that used to take ages to spread everywhere have started to go across the world in less time than it has ever happened in human history. Among the things that spread across the world in the 2010s was Afrobeat, the soup of sounds that partially remade the global pop climate.

Long before this occurred, Canadian-Nigerian singer, Kelly Anthony, had been holding onto his Nigerian identity as an anchor while he navigated life in Toronto and music was always the channel to express how he felt. His latest single, ‘Pagans’ featuring Dancehall artist, Larruso and celebrated Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie, is the result of Kelly immersing in the sonic fragments that are coming out of Lagos – and the wider Afrobeat scene – in the last 10 years.

LISTEN BELOW:

Atop a muted beat produced by rising producer, London, Kelly and his collaborators make an ode to his dreams and aspirations while taking note of the naysayers who are waiting on his downfall. After taking over the opening stretch, Kelly cedes the floor to Larruso who weaves a smooth verse about thriving regardless of what is said about him. By the closing stretch of the song, Sarkodie contributes a vociferous verse delivered in a fusion of English and Twi before Kelly comes in again to deliver the song’s pointed chorus.

The first song from a forthcoming project that is expected to herald Kelly’s evolution into the Afro-fusion space, ‘Pagans’ sees Kelly achieve his goal of coming into his own as a creative, crafting euphonious Afro-Pop records and trying to inspire the next generation of African across the diaspora.
