The West African countries of Ghana and Nigeria have an ongoing rivalry between them akin to that of siblings. From football, to politics, to entertainment, citizens of each country always want to demonstrate their superiority over the other, howbeit not in a hateful or biased manner. It is always more bants than facts. There have been several episodes, of ‘social media wars’ or ‘Twitter Fights’ between citizens of both countries that leaves us all clutching our stomach with laughter. Through it all though, it is obvious that it is all love and sport.
In this post, we attempt to give reasons why Nigerians, despite the rivalry with their Ghanian counterparts, should visit the Gold Coast. Just like Nigeria, Ghana is rich in history, mineral resources, culture, tradition and places of interest to see and visit.
Many Nigerians do not even know that in Ghana you have Hausa and Fulani speaking people like there are in Nigeria.

Cousins
Ghanians are like cousins to Nigerians. Visiting Ghana for a Nigerian is like visiting your cousins for holiday. There are lots you share in common, but somehow you all still do things differently. Case in point, the jollof. When Nigerians visit Ghana there is an air of familiarity about the place, some lingo and slangs are commonly used, but their pidgin is still very confusing.
Food
Shitor. Banku. Waakye. Jollof. The list is endless really. Ghanian cuisine can be a joy to experience and even though the eternal battle over whose jollof is better still rages on, no Nigerian should visit Ghana without tasting the jollof. Ghanaian food is actually so popular in Nigeria that there are bukas and restaurants in Lagos dedicated to selling just Ghanaian meals. The most popular among them is Ghana High.
Shatta Wale
Shatta Wale is Ghana’s biggest music sensation at the moment. And only recently he has had a war of words with Nigerian pop artistes on social media. As long as you are not one to take these things too seriously, visiting Ghana to see a Shatta Wale show should be on your list of things to do, at least that way you can see what the hype is about yourself and tell if he is as great as he says he really is.

Beaches
Ghana is blessed with such an impressive stretch of beach line. If you are tired of the Elegushi and Oniru beaches of Lagos, switch it up by exploring the coastline of Labadi and Kobrobite. If you are enthusiastic about wildlife, visit the Cocoloco beach where you would find turtles and a large number of river birds. Beach Resorts in Ghana are beautiful and spending a night or more in one of them would greatly enrich your Ghana experience. Hospitality in Ghana is amazing with big establishments and accra hotels offering top notch service to travelers.
Chale Wote
We have Calabar Carnival. They have Chale Wote. This annual street cum art festival does get bigger and better every year with amazing exhibitions, musical performances, art installations, food, merchandise vendors as well as live music and dance that goes on well into the night. For anyone who enjoys having a good time, when in Ghana, Chale Wote is a must attend.
Nigerian Community
There is a perpetually growing Nigerian community in Ghana and visiting Ghana would definitely feel like home. It wont be long before you notice the familiar accent of a Nigerian, no matter where he is from back home and quickly tag them as your brother or your sister. Especially in Ghanian Universities where many Nigerians turn to as an alternative to schooling in Europe or right here at home.

Ghana’s outstanding music band, FRA! on Friday, August 10, 2018, launched its maiden album titled FRA!ternity at the Piano Bar in Teshie, Accra.
The event, which attracted a large number of personalities from the music industry and the general public, witnessed some momentous live musical performances from the band itself and other celebrated artistes such as veteran musician, Ben Brako, Afro Pop artist, King Promise, Adomaa, Susan August, Six Strings, Queen Ayorkor, Yanful and a host of others.
The album launch did not only offer music fans of FRA! an opportunity to enjoy some of its hit songs on the album, but to enable the eclectic band to officially introduce itself to the Ghanaian music scene.
‘FRA,’ in local dialect, Twi, means ‘to mix’ and the band adopted the name to show the strength of the diversity that it’s so proud of.
Made up of Martin Adjartey, Maxwel Klu, Selorm Dornyoh, Joshua ‘Virgen’ Boateng, and George Ashirifie ‘Gogoe’, the band started in 2015 at Nungua, Accra, initially playing largely cover versions of popular songs at its shows.
The boys, however, realized that they had the ability to create their own songs and for two years now, they have been releasing hit singles, which have so far been featured on their maiden album.
FRA!ternity, which combines Highlife, Afrobeat, Rock and Soul elements, has songs such as Crazy (ft. Maayaa), Mmaa (ft. Adomaa), Lover (ft. Kueiqu Afro & Susan Augustt), Another Day (ft. Robin-Huws), Fra In The Building (ft. Reynolds the Gentleman), Kokonsa (ft. Six Strings) and Ego Bee (ft. Dave da Musicbox), Moments (ft. O’minor), Ozimzim Party, Akono Ba (ft. Kyekeyku & Senku band), Happy Yourself Remix (ft. Efya).
With the release of the album, FRA! has proven to its fans that it has come to stay.

Ghana is famous for its colorful traditional festivals and durbars celebrated yearly in different parts of the country, and Moree is one of the numerous communities that celebrate those colourful festivals. Moree festivals, specifically, the Abangye festival which is celebrated annually between August and September to commemorate the protection of properties of Moree traditional warriors during the days of wars has not been celebrated for over 18 years due to chieftaincy disputes and lack of traditional authority. But a 20-year-old artist, Jodiba who hails from Moree believes in the power and significance of the Moree traditional festivals: the sense of enjoyment, relaxation and time needed to bond family members whom we never really see. So, he joins the like-minded people of Moree community with his bold new electric-festival song to fight to resurrect Moree traditional festivals while imploring on the elders of Moree to bury their pride and make effort to resolve the long-unsettled chieftaincy dispute.
Jodiba is giving his fans a new electric-afrobeat song titled ‘Ayeeba’ to provoke the lovely people of Moree to celebrate the traditional festival. ‘Ayeeba’ was written as a reminder to all the Moree people that there is a common thread that runs through all of us that if it is not broken, we are as strong as a broom that cannot be broken by anybody. Jodiba tells people, “I am a new artist who is yet to be unveiled to the world and I have over 15 new commercial songs to release one best from as a debut single. But I chose to release ‘Ayeeba’ as my debut single for the love of development of Moree. The 18 years pending chieftaincy dispute has created so many twists and turns that completely arrested the development of Moree”.

Released in August 2018, the ‘Ayeeba’ song attributed particularly to the people of Moree leaves the listener breathless and astounded by the traditional musical richness of Ghanaian coast. In ‘Ayeeba’ the singing and chanting with collective musical instruments of fishermen burst forth. Clearly, the penetrating sounds of colourful palette of metal instruments offset by complex drumming patterns with haunting vocals of Jodiba leaves the listeners immersed.
Happy Apple Friday!!!

Every time you listen to her songs, it’s like you’re in heaven. So angelic at the same time powerful. Beside from her talent you will really love her as a person; so natural, no pretensions and yeh she’s so funny. I’m referring to the most sought after jazz singer in Ghana, Stephanie Benson.

She will be celebrating her 51st birthday in grand style at +233 Jazz Bar alongside BEPI Girls and other surprise artists. Thursday 16/8/2018 is supposed to be her birthday but because she wants to make it special and memorable she decided to shift it to this weekend, Saturday 19/8/2018. Tickets are going out for a cool Gh¢ 70.
The event is dubbed Stephanie Benson’s Soul Hangover with BEPI Girls and other surprise artists. The ulterior motive of the event is to connect, entertain and interact with old friends, fans, new audience and music enthusiasts. Her wonderful and angelic smile would melt the hearts of everyone who’ll make it to the event. Wondering what to expect? It’s beyond description.
