Piracy Concern In Ghana

By Aphua Larbi  (https://aphualarbi.wordpress.com)

I have been staring at my phone screen for a three weeks trying to find a way to write this post. I needed to find a way for it to make sense to me.

Over the past week, the news item that interested me the most was the arrest of Artem Vaulin. This man is alleged to be the owner of the kickass torrent sites; which is considered to be the biggest piracy sites in the world. This site is behind most of the movies, albums and books illegally downloaded.

Piracy is defined as the unauthorized duplication of an original recording for commercial gain without the consent of the rights owner. Pirated products are copied and packaged to resemble the original as closely as possible.

In Ghana, piracy has been a big issue plaguing music and movie producers. The stakeholders in the Ghanaian music industry have been claiming that for over a decade music piracy has not only robbed Ghanaian musicians of their expected revenue, but significantly tampered with the quality of their products, thereby causing public disaffection against them.

The issue is that most artistes are not aware of the rights they have to their intellectual property rights. Also, the government and authorities in charge do not seem to care one way or another except to talk about it in seminars.

It seems like at this point most people don’t care because it’ll always be around. However, not caring enough and being proactive is going to see us still grapple with the issue. Entertainment is a big industry and if we do not wake up, piracy will be the reason most artistes will not reap the fruit of their labor.

Wizkid dating Justine Skye

Wizkid seems to be in the news for all the good reasons. After he confirmed a remix of Mr Eazi’s Skintight with Justine Skye, Wizkid started posting lovely pictures of himself with Justine Skye on both their Instagram and they looked really cute together.

In the early hours of yesterday, Wizkid had Justine with him of one of his concerts and Justine also flaunted Wizkid on her snapchat with the love emojis. Many started wondering if there was something going on between the two.

Verse 1

Aware nyɛ nsaefuo, ɛnyɛ adiɛ yɛ ka hwɛ
Otirim yɛ wo dɛ, opɛ dɛdɛɛdɛ? ɛniɛ so hwɛ
Bachelors and spinsters, Kwashieman to Spintex
Looks like we all want someone with looks to impress
Oh pretty shitty a pity I know that beauty lies
She could be sweetie pie or ugly in disguise
Ferragamo her ammo, Giuseppe customized
Bag and shoes addict, one hell of a vice
I no be your daddy how dare I give you advice?
Harry met Sally, everyone for find their size
How can a midget and a giant rub shoulders?
She’s not career driven listen she prefers chauffeur
To pique her interest for her to be a mistress
Wo botom ni ahuɔ den ah shun, this I should stress
Movenpick, Santoku level, ready yourself
Or its nightmare on elm street, freddy yourself
Either find your level or stay quiet
Wa bodwe sɛ so sɛ dien ah nso kwayɛ

Verse 2

I know a guy whose charm is unemployed, it never works
But he has dough and having dough has it’s perks
I know a stunning cunning girl who can cook and twerk
Chale relax no punchlines it’s just facts
Some dey chill only in places with expats
Some go pay cash to never have their ex back
And when it’s pitch black you fit to find rich cats
Thirsty as a dog and feeling froggy, it’s just facts
An uncomfortable truth is like a loose tooth
You’re better with it out, some go hear this and pout
I’m not judging
I’m more sinner than saint, but who ain’t?
Amina sisi mu nyɛ den ah onware Yakubu
We all want to get home it’s like we dey play ludu
Houses are bought but homes are built
Are women like wine? If so find me a mil*
Cause a shine eye girl is trouble to a man
An irresponsible guy, cancer for woman
Ghana we dey you for measure your pay
Pray you and your sweetie on the same page and you ain’t prey

Delasi Releases 'Thought Journey'

Introducing Delasi – A conscious crooner, hailing from the Volta Region in Ghana. Thought Journey, his first album is out and he is excited to share it

Childhood.  – a time where the mind is free. A time where the imagination spirals, creating imaginary characters, situations, stories and songs. A time where anything and everything is possible.

To achieve something is an accomplishment. To achieve a childhood dream is a milestone.

Delasi Releases ‘Thought Journey’

Delasi started by dreaming, murmuring lyrics and rhymes to himself. He confidently performed them to the admiration of his peers. They grew to love his catchy songs and happily sang along. He wrote songs about fried fish and even sketched potential future album covers.  He had a vision.

The young boy from the Volta Region in Ghana has now grown into a young man. A bold man, who took the horns of his ambitions and fought to make them a reality.

Delasi’s song ‘Where Do We Go’ sparked his musical journey. It reached No 7 out of the top 60 African songs of 2013 and he wants to share more of this with you.

His new album is exactly what the title says it to be – a journey exploring the thoughts of Delasi.

He talks to the listeners through each of the songs. Opening up to strangers. Sharing thoughts that many of us share.

 Delasi Releases 'Thought Journey'

Why is the world unfair?

What does love feel like?

Why are there so many intricacies between human beings?

What would our ancestors do if they saw the state Modern Africans are in?

When will things change? What can I do to help?

He asks questions that many are afraid to ask.

Delasi’s unique style of musical storytelling encompasses hip-hop mixed with poetry, borborbor, soul and jazz.

Performing in countries such as Germany, Kenya, Zimbabwe, and Ghana, it is fair to say Delasi has attracted attention from all walks of life.

“I want you to hear what’s inside my mind…to see how I have evolved. I want to be able to start discussions through the music. I’m free to speak through my songs and #ThoughtJourney has allowed me to do this beautifully”

'Money Before Passion For Music' - Nii Funny www.beatznation.com

It is most often cliche to hear people in the creative arts industry saying passion is what drives them to do what they do.

Nii Funny, who is  popularly known for his hit song ‘Yoo ko Ebreaki Me’ (Broken Heart), stated that money motivates him first before the passion for music.

In an interview with Somtintasty, the presenter for ‘The Parliament’ on Rock Radio, Nii Funny was asked what drives him to do music. He replied saying  “First, I think about the money. You can have the passion but what do you eat after the passion?” He added that, “After, you have to think about your fans so the money and then the fans.”

Nii Funny who broke into the music scene with his popular ‘Broken Heart’ song seems to have a lot of relations with known music stars in the industry. He is the senior brother of Nii Soul ( formerly Joe of Mentor) and he is the cousin of Gasmilla.
