Ghanaian music producer Yung Fly today , celebrated one of Africa’s Greats Fela Kuti via 4 instrumentals which were sampled off some of Fela’s songs. Beatz Nation caught up with Yung Fly to tell us about how the whole project came up and he had this to say :
“ As part of the celebration and remembrance of the Nigerian legend, I made these beats from scratch unplanned to contribute to the culture and legacy of Mr Olufela Olusegun Oludotun Ransome-Kuti that forever lives on. He would have turned 78 if he was still alive and these beats would be jammed at his party ha!
This project was impromptu, it all started by seeing a tweet by @okayafrica the night before Fela’s birthday. A tweet that read “Top 10 Fela Kuti Songs” with a link attached to it so I checked it out knowing I have about 53 Fela Kuti folders containing every album/song of his.
The 10 Best Fela Kuti Songs https://t.co/W0joAFsWYM pic.twitter.com/4FttbNTDIs
— Okayafrica (@okayafrica) October 16, 2016
The first song on the list was “Lets Start” and when I listened, that was it! Got motivated to do this project. How long did it take to do this? Started at around 11pm and finished at 4am.
Because it was impromptu, final mix, mastering and live instrumentation delayed a bit sending emails here and there between my brothers Derek Drvmroll Asare, Jerom Ghost LXXXVIII Boateng (THEM) and Sam Clarence SkyBeatsGH Richter, couldn’t have pulled this off the way I did without them. “

The self-proclaimed African Dancehall King having already stated that ‘he will not endorse any political party or its candidate but rather preach peace and entertain their gathering‘, has performed at the campaign launch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC’s) parliamentary nominee for the Tamale Central constituency, Inusah Fuseini , upon invitation.
Shatta Wale after the performance took to social media to reveal his discovery that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo , the 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party happens to be a fan and went on to call this year’s politics “Shattatics” .
” I never knew Nana Akuffo was a great fan …U deh come like kakai ampa …This years politics is called shattatics “

I recently came across a thought-provoking thread on twitter by @CB_theSAINT that makes good reading and thought i’d share with you . Feel free to disagree or comment.
I should do a thread of the most underrated and under appreciated artistes in Ghana
— El Santo (@CB_theSAINT) September 29, 2016
Okay so these are not upcoming artistes. These musicians have been around for quite sometime making good music but still not highly regarded
— El Santo (@CB_theSAINT) September 29, 2016
For some we know their music but not their names. for others we just hear their names in passing but don’t actually bother to pay attention
— El Santo (@CB_theSAINT) September 29, 2016

Superb vocal presence. She will out sing your favourite female musician anytime. Probably not highly regarded because of her dialect.

Best songwriter in Ghana hands down. His song “I do love u” is a classic example of timeless music. Sark’s Mary album? Yup him.

Put him against any emcee in Africa and he will make u proud. Still underrated because Ghanaians don’t really appreciate good hip hop.

His name is out there but for his talent he should really be rubbing shoulders on the big stages with the big names.

Wisa’s “ekiiki mi” wouldn’t have been such a hit if not for him. Anytime you hear “ooooshh” you know it’s time to dirty yourself.

She really needs to put in more effort in getting her music on the airwaves. A listen of any Adina’s songs will melt your insides.

The best female dancehall artiste in Ghana. Listen to these songs and come back to this post. “Machine man” , “Funky fresh” .

She just needs two things : Better branding , better management. Eno is a good rapper regardless of gender.

Everyone knows this. I shouldn’t even talk plenty. Who doesn’t love Yaa Pono? So why is he not headlining major events?!.

I honestly think he has himself to blame. He has bars for days but doesn’t seem to be doing music wholeheartedly.

Shaker Really needs to be commanding a bigger fan base and headlining shows. He has some of the best hooks ever. Also makes dope beats.

Not surprising. Ghanaians are too used to ‘boom boom kye’ music so can’t really relate to anything alternate.

Eazzy too hardworking and consistent to be so underappreciated. Has very good stagecraft. Deserves much more credit from Ghanaians.

Like XO she really has herself to blame. Started really well but someway somehow faded out. Should really be a bigger star.

This is actually an urban gospel group. Three songs ‘Crazy for God’ , ‘Meyi way3’ & ‘No juju’. Listen and come back to this post.

A lesser appreciated Yaa Pono. I’m sure anyone reading this would have a smile on his/her face just by seeing his name.

Please stop nodding your head. An even lesser appreciated Yaa Pono and Opanka.

This whole thread should be dedicated to this guy. What hasn’t he done? He’s big no doubt but we all know Guru should be way bigger.
Alright.. I guess that’s it. Would have added Strongman and Tee Phlow but I don’t think they quite fit yet.
— El Santo (@CB_theSAINT) September 29, 2016
Feel free to disagree or comment.
But please let’s APPRECIATE these artistes more. They are really trying.
Thanks. ?— El Santo (@CB_theSAINT) September 29, 2016
I know getting your music mainstream is hard but I feel these are great artistes who do not get the props they deserve.
— El Santo (@CB_theSAINT) September 29, 2016
Other artistes like Klu, Dex Kwesi, Gemini, Stargo are also grinding hard but I know they preparing some ??? to take over so it’s chill pic.twitter.com/LB5s18fXDZ
