Edmund Addo was born on January 19, 2001 in Labadi, Accra, but he was raised in Tema. Edmund was raised by his grandmother in Tema, a City in Accra.

Edmund started rapping in Junior High School and began to go to a local studio after school to record music. Edmund spent his youth reading thesauruses and dictionaries to further his vocabulary. Talking about his upbringing, Edmund said that he was given two options “Be successful or be successful”

From the age of six, Edmund used the nickname “Stone”. He also used the nickname “Double D”. When he joined Instagram he chose the username “Reefer Tym”. This later became his stage name when he started to rap and a name favored by his fans.

At age 16, under the stage name Reefer Tym released his first single, Shatta Wale, and followed in October 2017 with the single, Carry.
In 2017, American rapper Soulja boy posted a video of himself asking Reefer to drop his album on iTunes, which helped Edmund gain popularity. That same year, Edmund created and signed a deal with Zeit Records.

In 2017, Soulja boy featured on Reefer Tym’s single “Baddest in the party”, from his first album Unimpeded.
In August 2017, Edmund created controversy when he challenged Sarkodie and said He, Reefer Tym was the best rapper from Ghana in a tweet on Twitter. Sarkodie replied stating that if Reefer wanted his spot, he should be ready for what it comes with.

Edmund’s music is frequently about “the struggle on the streets, love and money”, and he stated that he’s been influenced by rappers Gucci Mane, Soulja boy, Lil Wayne and Wale.

Ghanaweb described his “manifestly youthful voice” and “mutinous sound”, and stated “Edmund joins other young rappers who have rejected an old-school emphasis on lyrical variety, individualism, and personal catharsis”.
In 2017, Ghanaweb wrote that Edmund “articulates the constant state of affliction that living in a poverty-stricken environment can mean. He makes emotionally intelligent observations in a manner reminiscent of teenage artists of the ‘90s, such as Mobb Deep and Lil’ Wayne, whose voices were valued as genuine illustrations of life in their corners of America”.
