Since his breakout track, “Eleko”, Mayorkun has been working tirelessly to give us hit after hit — from “Che Che” to “Fantasy”. Finally, we get to see all these bangers (and more) lined up in his awe-inspiring debut album, The Mayor Of Lagos.

On the 14-track album, Mayorkun takes the first six songs solo, showing off his enviable hit-making abilities. On The Mayor Of Lagos, Mayorkun also shows us his range, with a mid-tempo jazzy number, “Aye Mi”; and a swing-inspired track “Drama Queen”.

Produced by Fresh VDM, the fantastic “Drama Queen” is an impeccable musical number, portraying all the seductive tenets of the songs that clearly inspired it. The track comes as a surprise to us all, but it’s a job well done for the DMW heavyweights.

Mayorkun’s musical inspirations are all-encompassing, and really make a statement on the project. There’s Olu Maintain’s “Yahooze” on “Fantasy”; classic D’Banj on “Oshepete”; and Shaggy’s “It Wasn’t Me” on album standout, “Red Handed”.

Mayorkun’s talent is undeniable, as is his ear for picking the right features — particularly Sarkodie and Patoranking, who both soar. This album has been one of the most anticipated releases of the year, and it absolutely did not disappoint.
